WTAC Part 2

The weather on Saturday looked like it was going to hold out so we were hoping the teams would continue to push the envelope and see the times drop some more.

It was always going to be a big ask to beat the Project Nemo Evo at almost 2 secs faster than the rest of the field. Teams didn’t stop pushing though and that was great to see.

With the Cyber Evo out of action, Suzuki in the Scorch s15 was the most likely International challenger. The s15 with its new aero looked awesome on track but Suzuki was only able to shave a fraction off his Friday time ending with a best of 1:28.3290.

It was an attack of the Aussies with the MCA Suspension s13 kicking Suzuki out of third place. Earl Bamber drove the s13 to a time of 1:27.8080 while the Tiltons Interior and Nemo Evos slightly bettered their times from Friday. We wonder if a RWD can take the title next year?

WTAC Top Fuel S2000

Taniguchi pushed hard in the Top Fuel s2000 and RE Amemiya rx7. Unfortunately he was unable to make the podium and looked visibly disappointed. It was still a great effort and to put things into perspective the Top Fuel’s time of 1:29.0520 was only 2/100ths of a second slower than the Cyber Evo’s winning time last year.

RevolutioNZ with their Evo finished in 10th spot and was the next best of the Internationals. Hopefully they’ll come again next year to improve on their times.

The leaders of Open and Clubsprint class didnt change from Friday. The s15 of the Sutton brothers competing in Open Class looked awesome in the flesh and narrowly missed out on the podium.

Another s15 we were looking forward to seeing was the SX Developments s15 which unfortunately only made it to the Show & Shine.

WTAC 2012 was a great event and we’re looking forward to 2013 already. Even the Stig looks ready for 2013 to roll around…
