Toyota 86 & Subaru BRZ

The long-awaited Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ are about to reinvigorate the Australian street, modification and circuit scenes. Conceived, designed and built as a joint venture, these cars are essentially brothers-from-another-mother.

They are arguably the first new affordable rear-drive coupes that provide a decent platform for the keen driver. Companies around the world have already started announcing new parts that cater for aesthetics, interiors, performance and handling.

It will be very interesting to see the evolution of the street and aftermarket modification scene as the Toyota and Subaru fanboys have traditionally focused on completely different platforms. But one thing is certain, we’ll gradually be seeing these cars upgraded and individualised over the coming months.

We’re also lucky enough to have access to the Toyota 86, and we’ll be taking a closer look at it very soon!
